Resumo
The present study aims to understand the social dynamics involved in the transformation of Rio de Janeiro's favelas into tourist attractions, analyzing the discourses of local entrepreneurs and tourists. Favela tourism represents a complex phenomenon, as the transformation of these areas into tourist attractions highlights significant tensions between economic development and the ethical challenges associated with the commodification of poverty. Within this process, it becomes relevant to examine the roles of the two main social actors in the tourist favela: entrepreneurs and tourists. The methodology employed to achieve the thesis objectives involved a qualitative analysis, with data gathered through direct observations and semi-structured interviews. The results highlight that local entrepreneurs emphasize the positive aspects of the favelas while challenging negative media stereotypes.
